About Us

An Australia wide charity dedicated to the prevention and advocacy of maternal mental health disorders by creating grassroots communities for mums to bring back the traditional village of support.

A letter from our founder

After giving birth to my daughter in January 2019, I felt the reality of parenthood, how much I didn't need another onesie or knitted beanie rather, practical support, a home-cooked meal, another set of helping hands and validation, empathy, sharedness and a recognition of competence. I felt the gaping hole that is a lack of ‘the traditional village of support’ in early parenthood, so some months later, I decided to create it. . I started a Facebook page to connect 20 of my Brisbane mum friends, never imagining the journey that would take me on.

I was met with overwhelming generosity and to my surprise; women who wanted to join my movement. By 2021, I had formally registered this kindness initiative as a charity, and I could never have predicted what came next.

Since August 2019, we have delivered thousands of hampers filled with home cooked meals, non-perishables, essential items and practical support to nominated mothers all across Australia. But what we’ve built has become much more than just the hampers.

We have created a movement.

As of October 2022, we are proud to have 23 vibrant communities across the country. We’ve launched The Nurtured Village Podcast, with over 50 episodes and more than 15,000 downloads, and a website and blog that continue to grow and connect families. In 2024 alone, we had 99 amazing individuals volunteer with us across 5 states in Australia.

Today, we’re more than just a charity—we are a nationwide community where young families can feel seen and supported during what can be one of the most isolating times of their lives. It’s a space where the hardships of motherhood are acknowledged, shared, and normalized. A space where families can truly belong.

None of this would be possible without the dedication of our incredible volunteers, our charity partners, and the wider community that believes in our mission. I am deeply grateful to all of you who support us—whether by donating, sharing our story, or following our journey. You are the heart of this movement, and we couldn’t do it without you.

With heartfelt thanks,

Emma
